Science Week

All classes in school did some experiments on Friday in the GP room as part of Science Week. Here is our experiment.

Learn about density and make a rainbow in a glass

You can use physics to do a great trick and make a liquid rainbow in a glass.
What you need:
  • A glass or clear plastic cup
  • Water
  • Red food colouring
  • Vegetable or sunflower oil
  • Washing up liquid
  • Runny honey
  • Dettol or disinfectant

Our scientific team hard at work

Add some food colouring to the water and pour into glasses or jars

Add some cooking oil.

Add some washing up liquid.

Look how the water is changing!

Add some runny honey.

There are different colours in the glass.

lastly we added  some disinfectant.

What's happening?
The different liquids all have different densities
So in our liquid rainbow, honey is the densest layer and sits at the bottom of the glass, then the washing up liquid comes next and floats on top.
The layer of coloured water is less dense than the washing up liquid, and finally the oil is the least dense of all and floats on top.
We hope you enjoyed our experiment!!

Team Teaching Maths

Team Teaching Maths
In team teaching today we worked on lines and angles. There were various stations set up in the class and we worked in teams.

We played maths games on our notebooks.

We had to find various angles around the classroom.

Remember Parallel  lines are always the same distance apart and never touching.

We also had some worksheets to complete and angles to draw.

Two lines forming a 90 degree angle, which is labelled as such.
Right angles
A right angle is an angle of 90 degrees

Straight angles

A straight angle is an angle of 180 ^\circ.
A horizontal line. A line arcs over the centre of it and a label beside the arc says 180 degrees.
